You have white smoke coming out of your exhaust But you have perfect compression And only smoke's after idle and it puffs once and stops while driving And the car runs strong.?
It can be nothing more than condensation when you first start the engine. But it may be more serious. White smoke from the exhaust can be a sign that coolant is entering the combustion chamber. Normally this would indicate a blown head gasket, but on some vehicles where the coolant flows through the intake manifold, it can indicate a blown intake gasket. Bottom line is, that if, coolant is entering the combustion chamber, you must find out from where. Are you loosing coolant, even a small amount? One of the main causes of white exhaust smoke and coolant loss is a cracked or warped cylinder head, a cracked engine block, or head gasket failure caused by overheating.A cracked head may allow coolant to leak into one or more cylinders or into the combustion chamber of the engine.
White smoke coming from Exhaust only when idle and coolant loss If you run the car normally and not let it idle no coolant loss at all no white smoke Good power on engine?
Typically, white smoke is just water vapor. Water vapor is normal when the engine is cold. Water is produced when gasoline is burned. Gasoline is a chemical compound called a hydrocarbon and burning of hydrocarbons produce water (H2O) and carbon dioxide (CO2). When the exhaust line is cold, such ...
Could have a large vacuum leak. Give us more info about the car like the year, make, model and engine.
the smoke that comes out of a exhaust pipe is supposed to be white
Because it contains more unburned fuels and less carbon contents
Why does my Honda Insight feel like it is going to stall out after coming to a complete stop and then go while white smoke comes out of the exhaust during accelleration?
If the coolant reservoir is low or empty, I would say you have a bad head gasket.
White smoke can be nothing to be concerned about if it's thin, like vapor. However, thicker smoke is a big problem, and can be caused the engine burning coolant. This can be the result of a serious issue like a blown head gasket, a damaged cylinder head, or a cracked engine block – all of which are...
You have white smoke coming out the exhaust during start up on your 98 Camry and stops once the car is in motion what could this be caused by?
It's steam from condensation in the exhaust system. It's pretty normal in the early mornings or during cooler weather. Nothing to worry about as long as it is disappearing soon after the car is in motion.
engine is burning oil could be valve seals or piston rings
You should stop immediately.
Will white smoke come out of tailpipe after going through flood waters Changed plugs oil and air filter Will it stop when it dries out?
Not knowing how deep it went or what type of vehicle you have it is hard to say. You may also have water in the transmission, transfer case, front and rear differentials. I would guess if you only got water into the exhaust system, a good 20 mile highway drive should dry out the exhaust system.
White smoke can be nothing to be concerned about if it's thin, like vapor. This is probably the result of normal condensation buildup inside the exhaust system. This kind of smoke disappears quickly. However, thicker smoke is a big problem, and can be caused the engine burning coolant.
their can be a couple of reasons for this, 1- while the car is in gear the drive train is loaded and the assembly is twisted(suspect weak/broken motor mounts) flexing coolant hoses. So there is a possible coolant leak with anything connected to coolant/heater hoses. Check radiator hoses, clamps, ...
Why is blue smoke coming out of the exhaust after the car sets overnight 1999 Toyota RAV4 but no smoke after car is warmed up?
Oil return lines from head may be partially plugged and oil runs down into cylinder over night - it is burned on start-up
The white smoke is the result of normal condensation which builds up inside the exhaust system.Thick smoke usually comes from the faulty in engine coolant, which could lead to many serious problems like damaged cylinder head, blown head gasket, cracked engine block… which might cost drivers quite...
What does it mean when thick white smoke comes out of the exhaust pipe and radiator keeps going low but there is no milky oil?
Blown head gasket or cracked head. The gasket is blown next to the cylinder. Repair immediately. Do not drive, as severe engine damage will occur. If it is a V6 or V8, replace both head gaskets.
The clogging of your fuel injectors or carburetor jets may induce vapor lock.See the link listed below:
You just put gas treatment in your car and it started smoking white smoke out of the tailpipe would the treament have anything to do with the smoke?
If you are talking about gas treatment poured in the gas tank, and you only poured in one can, the answer is no. White smoke from the tail-pipe is normally an indication of a blown head gasket. Stop driving the car until you have this looked at.
What could be the reason why white smoke comes out of muffler pipe only when you stop at a light and when you get going but then stops when im going down the road?
White smoke from the exhaust is a symptom of coolant entering the combustion chamber. This can be caused by a blown head gasket or a cracked head. STOP driving this vehicle and have it repaired ASAP. Serious engine damage will occur if you continue the run this engine, even for a short time.
Water is a by-product of normal combustion, especially when using hydrocarbon fuels. It's the hydrogen from the fuel combining with oxygen in the air that releases the energy in the form of heat that drives your car forward. As you well know, two part hydrogen - one part oxygen equals water. Once...
White smoke comes out during idle after gas peddle is pushed quickly and car goes back to idle does not smell like burnt oil just rich smell will stop after a few min is engine loading up?
While an engine is cold, water vapor condenses and comes out the exhaust pipe as white vapor on a cold day. After the engine warms up, the exhaust pipe is hotter allowing the exhaust gasses to be hotter as they come out the tailpipe. When that occurs, the water vapor dissipates long before it can...
If the exhaust smoke is blue or gray: Thick blue or gray smoke is an indication of the vehicle burning oil, which means that oil is somehow leaking into your engine's combustion chamber.Burning oil like this can cause a wide range of issues from reduced fuel economy to less-than-stellar accelera...
Did you accidently add any motor oil or any type of oil in the fuel tank? Does the car produce this white smoke at normal operating temperatures? If it does, you should seek a professional opinion. If not, this is normal. Your piston rings could also be shot. Causing oil to get into the combustio...
White smoke: Water condensation or antifreeze has mixed with the fuel supply. If the smoke is coming from under your hood, that probably means you ignored white smoke coming out of the tailpipe, and now your engine is overheating.Or maybe you completely forgot to add coolant at all, and the engine...
Usually means trouble. White smoke is caused by coolant / antifreeze getting into the combustion chamber. Take it to your local professional. Most probably, your head gasket had blown, or the block is cracked. Which means that collant is getting into the cylinders, causing the exhaust to be white.
What would cause a car that is cold and idiling to have a strong exhaust smell and no steam but when put in gear and the smell goes away but the exhaust has steam coming out?
A device called the heat riser has stuck or the heat riser hose has fallen off.could this loose part cause a metal raddling when you start to excelerate?
Car shut off while driving a puff of smoke came out the hood won't restart. I hear the cranking to want to turn on but no go?
It sounds like your car over heated while you were driving it. You should have it towed to a mechanic so that they can fix the problem.
probably a blown head gasket
A lot of things can go wrong. Lug nuts (that hold the tire to the wheel) may not have been tightened properly. The studs (threaded bolts that the nuts thread onto) may have sheared off. RARELY happens! The wheel bearing could have came apart from not being caught or repaired when failing. The bolts ...
because the fan belt is burning
Why would a 1999 Chrysler Town and Country van stop running while driving but start again after 5 minutes?
Could be a very dirty fuel filter or a failing fuel pump. Try replacing the fuel filter first.
Probably a blown head gasket, or a craked head. White smoke is the outcome of antifreeze getting into the combustion chamber via head gasket or a crack in the cylinder head.
1999mustang v6 I turn on the car and this large white awful smoke comes out of the exhaust n stays for a little while then reduces or goes It does this every day why?
In a 1999 Mustang V6, a large white awful smoke coming from the exhaust could indicate no problem at all on a cooler day. If it is excessive after the car has warmed up it could mean there is an internal coolant leak. This is often accompanied by a sweet smell.
What cause my car give out big white smoke from exhaust with a rustling sound every time after left turn when I step on the gas. It runs smooth and accelerates well when I drive straight.?
White smoke from the exhaust is a sign of an internal coolant leak. Coolant is entering the combustion chamber. One cause is a blown head gasket. Stop driving this car immediately, and have this looked into or you could possibly ruin the engine.
1999 Saturn that won't start It ran fine yesterday Today it won't start you get a puf of white smoke from the engine and dark smoke out the exhaust Car Turns over but doesn't start Any ideas for cause?
Check for trouble codes with a scan tool. I worked on a Saturn that had corrosion on the coolant temperature sensor connector which caused the computer to see too low of temperature and it added excessive fuel to the mix. The car barely ran, hads lots of smoke, the gauge on the dash was erratic a...
Purchasing a vehicle might be costly, Nevertheless building a vehicle is actually much more biting down hard. Probably the most biting down hard from the operating price is actually the price of fueling. This really is particularly stressing within nations or even areas which encounter energy cos...
If your 94 Lincoln Town car has white smoke coming out of the tailpipes constantly even after an oil change could it be the engine valves or what?
white smoke is typicaly a indication that your engine is burning coolant. could have a cracked head or bad head gasket. i would encourage you to take it to a full service auto shop and have it checked out. The other answer you have on this is most likely correct, also there is a recall on many of...
Your 98 crv stopped running while you were driving only 30 miles an hour but you were able to retart it two or three times and made it home What is causing it?
Am not familiar with that type vehicle, but I have had that problem. If your vehicle has a carbruator with a sediment bowl, it could possible be water in the bowl. This would allow gas to flow over the top of the water until you start to accelerate too much and draw the water from the bowl. After...
Why would my car idle fine in park but when you put it in drive or reverse it runs rough. It also runs rough when driving. Only is fine while in park.?
on newer cars with fuel injection if fuel pump sterts getting weak it could cause that happened to me
If you drive a manual car your shifting isn't correct
Any lack of engine oil in the system, or even dirty oil, will lead to extreme engine wear, and driving a car low on oil can lead to some pretty bad situations. If you run out of engine oil, your engine will fail.If the engine runs out of oil, it will start to grind, and then seize up, stalling the...
I have white smoke coming out of my diesel exhaust How can I find out whether the head is gone in the engine?
1) Check to see if there is a collection of water droplets on oil dipstick.2) check radiator an see if there is oil in the water.3) white smoke is usually an indication of water in fuel. If no crack exists in the cylinder head or walls.4) fuel filter may have water in excess. if filter has petcoc...
In most states, yes you can. A smoking vehicle is a hazard to other drivers as it may obstruct their view.
Why would there be blue smoke from the tailpipe and a rattle in the engine but only once in a while sometimes it's fine others it smokes and rattles?
AnswerThe rattle that you are hearing could be your lifters not having enough oil on them until the car warms up a bit and the oil pump picks the oil up and gets it to the top of the motor. The Blue smoke, probably means that your rings are finished. If there was black smoke it would mean a senso...
White smoke from the exhaust means two things; excessively rich fuel mixture, or coolant is being burned in the engine. Being that the smoke comes out after 15-20 minutes, the problem is probably an internal coolant leak, allowing coolant to be burned by the engine.
The black smoke is caused by too much diesel fuel being supplied to the engine when you first open the throttle. Quite often this happens when the fuel injectors are worn and /or the turbo is not coming up to speed quick enough.
Could water in an almost empty gas tank on a lawn mower with a 27 HP engine run fine but then have white smoke coming out of the exhaust?
it could be a blown gasket, cracked head or water in the exhaust
You have a 1989 jetta gl runs very well while cold and after it warms up gets very noisy and the oil pressure light comes on Once you get the engine over 3500 rpm it goes back off. help?
You probably have excessive clearance in the rod bearings that causes rod knocking when the oil thins from the heat. While the oil is thick it provides a little cushion between the rods and the crankshaft but after it warms up the oil is a little too thin to help out. You can try using thicker oi...
Your 3000 gt starts and runs for about 3 seconds then dies while it blows out nasty smelling whitegrey smoke?
sounds like you might have an injector that is constantly firing causing a flooded fuel system, however it could also be your injector timing through your ECU.
What is wrong with the car if there is blue smoke from the exhaust when you take off from a stop but it goes away while moving?
Hey Lynn==It is probably just tired and in need of an overhaul. It will probably chug along for some time but an overhaul is in order. GoodluckJoesounds like you have leaky valve seals. They are letting oil into the cylinder when the car sits still. There are tools that allow you to replace the v...
What is wrong if a 2001 Mecruy Sable's air conditioning fan was running but suddenly stopped blowing cold air and a puff of smoke came out of the air conditioning vents?
On sables and tauruses there is a defect with the blower motor resister which causes a short in the electrical circut from the power distrabution box to the blower switch to the resister in the a/c housing(the smoke) start by repairing the wires to the resister and the resister your local ford de...
What could be causing white or gray smoke not steam to be coming from your exhaust and its got a funny burning smell to it?
Sounds like a bad head gasket allowing coolant to pass.
Why would a car start and run then out of no where stop running and wont start but after awhile start like nothing is wrong?
Could be that the coil (or coil packs) is breaking down and fails when it gets hot and then works again when it has cooled slightly after a few minutes. A good garage would check this easily and quickly especially a main dealer for the car.
Why would white smoke come out from under the hood when it is cold outside and the car isn't overheating?
It may not be overheating, but you could still have a coolant leak into the combustion chamber, from either a head gasket or intake manifold gasket.
If your BMW runs for 2 minutes after the oil leaks out of it then stops running itself does this mean you need a new ENGINE cos its seized the engine still runs but makes a racket?
the racket is most likely the valve train...fix the leak and fill and start...eny smoke? does the noise go away after a short time 5 min...?? gool duck :) also everyone should have a manual for their vehicle, and the local library should have a SHOP manual available in the reference section--make...
What is it when the car is cold at starting up it wont drive or back up but when your car is warm it runs perfect?
Your car has to achieve operating temperature before it functions as it should. Your heads which contain your valves are cold and don't move as easily as they do warm. This is why your thermostat doesn't open up until it reaches either 185 or 192 degrees. If you have a cold-blooded engine, you ha...
my mom had this problem with her car. they said she needed a new transmission. and quite possibly a new engine. take it to the garage (midas, monroe, etc.) and get it looked at.
If white smoke is coming out from the exhaust pipe, you have to check the engine to determine the cause.Check the combustion chamber of the engine. If there is a lot of leaked oil in it, it means the piston oil rings are worn and are allowing oil to enter the combustion chamber.
have you tried to get your wheel realigned
What if your truck stops runnung after about 65miles an hour but let off the pedal and it idles fine give it gas and it dies?
OK, at around 12miles down the road at about 65 miles an hour my truck losses power when i let off the gas pedal it seems to idle fine turn the ignition off wait for 3-5 min turn key and continue. OK, at around 12miles down the road at about 65 miles an hour my truck losses power when i let off t...
Check the choke throttle and linkage for binding that won't allow the choke baffle to close partially when you let off the gas. A good carburetor cleaner will dislodge any gunk or goop - follow the instructions on the can.
Bad spark plugs and leads can commonly make the engine feel like its 'hesitating' or skipping a beat, often worsening in the higher rev range. However it is not the cause of white smoke. White smoke is typically associated with coolant getting into the combustion chamber. The most common cause of ...
You can't unless you call someone and they will give you gas.
yeah, pretty typical of older vehicle or high mileage vehicles, something like the valve covers could be a leaking a little oil or maybe some antifreeze, then as the engine gets up to temperature it gets burned off, it could also be spilled oil from a refill some other spill or leak
If your block is cracked engine coolant may be leaking into the combustion chambers.
Your transmission runs fine when it is cold but after you drive for a bit you can not get it to shift from 1 to 2 and when you step on the gas the transmission will slip out of gear?
Sounds like your torque converter needs replacing
Your exhaust emits white smoke and drops of water even when engine warms up but no loss of coolant or overheating?
If there is no overheating or loss of coolant, most likely it is due to condensation in the exhaust system (pretty normal in cool or rainy weather).
What is wrong with your car if it only starts after sitting for a while...It takes me back and forth to work everyday with no problem but when running errands won't start after the 2nd or 3rd place?
Assuming the fluid levels are normal then it is most likely the starter is getting too hot from start and stop use. Locate the starter on your vehicle and see if it has a heat sheild if it doesn't or its mostly eroded away then buy one and that should help you, they do sell aftermarket ones for v...
What is causing your 1993 probe 2lt to burn oil sometimes from a cold start but only about 10 seconds after the engine has been running ie the smoke is not immediate and it only does it sometimes?
Worst case scenario: you have bad piston rings. In the first 10 seconds, your car is pushing oil into the cylinders. Then it burns (white smoke). When the car warms up, the rings seal better and the smoke dissapears. Borrow a compression tester from Autozone (free), pull the spark plugs, and chec...
Your 1994 Chevy S10 Blazer 4.3 V6 Vortex is running rough on take off it spits and sputters and a poof of black smoke comes out of the exhaust what could be wrong?
one of your problems could be in the injectors they maybe putting to much fuel.
Typical of a Bad Head Gasket
Why would your 1998 new beetle while turned off hours after driving have a fan sound coming on and off?
Your coolant temperature sensor could be malfunctioning and signaling the fans cool the engine. It is normal, especially, in hot whether for the cooling fans to come on randomly as the engine cools, but if the engine is already cold then there is an issue that needs to be addressed.
You have this newly bought black and decker electric pressure washer you have used it several times and suddenly the water stops coming out from the handle but the motor is still running what will you?
Make sure the tip on your sprayer isn't clogged. You may have a small rock in it.
the air conditioner shouldn't have anything to do with it. there could be a problem with your tires or your driving or your kid could be jumping on the seat
Why does your engine management light come on and the car run sluggish after you run out of diesel in a 2005 mercedes c220 cdi?
Well its not good for a fuel injection motor to run out of fuel in the first place. but try disconnecting the positive battery cable for 5 minutes or so and reconnect that should clear the light. make sure you put the right grade of diesel fuel in first. if the light comes back on it may be a dif...
Neither. It's a vapor (gas).
Check your power steering fluid level, if that is Ok get into a garage for a proper check up, sounds like a problem that could end up in a nasty accident
When my car idles fine while in park but when driving it hesitatesorchugs along when you give it gas?
i think it is most likely your injectors, which are faulty? but to find out properly without a doubt,go to a garage which has a laptop diagnostic service, there will be a charge for this service, but the genuine fault will be found straightaway! as this laptop has a lead which plugs in to the engine...
You have a 1989 Nissan sentra XE hatchback with a 16 l engine Intermitantly the car's engine will start to stutter and shake at idle and spit while making black exhaust smoke if you rev it any ideas?
I as well have a 1989 Sentra that would do the same and the problem was that when the engine got warm, the oil started to leak into the distributor. The oil would mess up the ignition timing, hence the poor idle and non burn issues. Take apart your distributor and see if there is any oil in it. I...
What causes Power loss while driving Hyundai excel 1996 once the car is turned of will not restart while driving the car the car still drives but the stereo runs dry of power digital clock as well.?
Perhaps alternator is not charging the battery properlyTest with a voltmeter - fully charged battery should read approx. 12.8 without engine running With engine running should read 13.8-14.2
Your 97 camaro comes close to overheating when sitting in idle car is full of coolantfans seem to be working and after sitting in idle low coolant light comes on and temp gauge drops while car moves?
well i have a 94 z28 and it will run up to about 210 when idleing because the factory set the fans to come on around there not shure of the exact numbers the fans come on when not that hot but i think its on a low speed setting so it don't realy do much but when driving the car produces a huge ai...

What can you do with a car that doesn't run but don't have the title the lot owner will not come get it after several requests?
Fill it full of pop can's and crush it.
Why does the car shake and once turned off when its cold like in the morning or after work but not when it has been running?
The car shakes because your engin has been cold and you sudenly start the car it will shake
You have some electrical parts that are overheating. You better get this looked at by a professional yesterday. Do not park this car in your garage or near your home. Park it where when it catches on fire it will not burn down your home also.
Your 1.0 metro runs great but only getting 25 mpg It doesn't smoke starts easy every morning changed air filter and oxygen sensor still no change?
have you tried new plugs you should get double that mpg
90 Chevy truck it was running fine but you got on it coming around the corner and it stalled the relay is clicking but no fuel is coming out of the injectors is there some kind of safety cut?
No safety cut out switch there. When you turn the key to the on position you should hear the fuel pump in the fuel tank run briefy for a couple seconds, if you do not hear the pump, the pump may be bad.
I would have to say you did not remove the engine oil drain plug.
Your powerstroke will not cold start but once you finally do get it to start it will run very raged then after about 20 minutes it will clean up and run desent?
that's an easy fix. the fuel filter needs replaced about$31.00 at autozone takes 5 min to change
You have 2002 Toyota RAV4 it exhausts a lot of smoke when you first start it after it has sat all night why?
This normally happens when the valve seals are worn down. The oil will collect on top of them and seep through them when cold into the cylinders. It is a fairly expensive job because the top of the motor, or head, must be removed and serviced.
What is wrong if you've just had the head gasket changed on vectra 2.0 p reg but its smoking after you drive it and smells of burning oil and smoking?
Check around the rocker cover to see if it's leaking oil onto the exhaust manifold.
Loose wheel; brake problems; bad bearing; something else? Whatever it is it's serious. Check it right away.
You were driving your car the other day when the oil light came on You stopped at a red light and your car shut down You tried to start it but it only makes one click in the engine?
It needs oil. My 97 Plymouth Breeze burns oil like crazy, I put more in every other time I fill it up with gas.
