15W-30 or 15W-40 diesel oil is generally used as an all-around engine oil. Specific oil for diesel engines must be used. Any 2009 or newer engine (in the US) must use API-CJ4 low ash diesel oil.
Depends on the vehicle. if you mean Heavy truck like a eighteen wheeler or dump truck then most of them use Diesel engines. If you mean light duty truck like a 1500 Chevy or dodge or f150 its gasoline. If heavyer then that it could be either gas or diesel.

I would recommend 5w30 and use fully synthetic so it will improve your vehicles life time but remember if you switch to synthetic you cant go back to regular oil it will cause problems but that's the best you can do for your mustang.
